Just Too Funny!

I met a wonderful lady recently whose son is a Marine Corporal serving in Afghanistan. She, like millions of us is burdened with an imperious, tin-eared, nanny state, myopic Democratic Congressman. In this case, it is Ben Chandler of Kentucky’s 6th District.

Ben refuses to hold town hall meetings and disparages the folks who want to get his ear and demand he vote for their long term interests instead of rubber stamping the Obama agenda. Eunice is fighting back with a wonderful website showing what a dilfarb Mr. Chandler actually is. One of her best works is a craftily photo shopped video demonstrating where her Congressman is when he should be travelling his district listening to the will of the voters.

Just imagine your Senator (Murray for instance?), or Congressman (Inslee, McDermott, Baird, Larson, Smith?) in this clip. Please accept my apologies as I am not nearly as savvy as Eunice, or I would have blatantly copied her work with one of our current Obama sycophants.

You may want to watch this more than once. The sappy music fits the scenes perfectly and you will get a real kick out of where Ben manages to appear in the photos.

It would be wonderful to find a creative computer whiz that could knock something like this out for those of us here in Washington. Email me at oldironjarhead@live.com if you are that person.

Eunice’s website is:

Enjoy!

Changing Gears

I have been writing this blog for 8 months now. The only reason I have done so is to perhaps convince a few voters to agree with me that this upcoming mid-term election is probably the most important one of our lifetimes.

I am concentrating my efforts in a somewhat different direction for the next 2 months. I will not have the time to make regular posts, but will do so when time permits.

I have volunteered to be a Precinct Committee Officer in my neighborhood. The work involves gathering support by contacting residents personally, distributing yard signs, doorbelling with the candidates, and holding small group meetings for folks to discuss the issues and meet the candidates themselves. This work will involve a lot of time and shoe leather, but it provides the opportunity to perhaps turn a few opinions and get out the vote for the general election.

Our nation faces huge problems that have been building for decades and only exacerbated by the present administration and Congress. Debt and entitlement programs are out of control. Inept Foreign Policy is weakening America’s position in the world. Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, the FHA and VA are still pushing “liar loans” and other subprime instruments to promote social engineering instead of intelligent lending. Each is in dire straights and in the process of failing with huge taxpayer bailouts in the future.

“Taxpayers” are only bearing part of the burden. Our children are on the hook for the rest – $13 Trillion in National Debt, and over $100 Trillion more in unfunded entitlement program liabilities. Our economy is trying mightily to recover, but policies and regulations pushed by an administration of academics and eggheads with no private sector business experience are threatening to tip the economy back into the recession. They are intentionally attempting to balkanize America along race and class lines instead of continuing the healing and progress that has occurred since the Civil Rights Act.

The only way to begin to turn this ship around and save our children’s’ future is to flip control of Congress from the administration to the opposition. That will stop further harmful legislation and defund some that is already on the books.

The quote on my business card is:

“I dedicate my remaining years on earth to preventing our government from squandering the future of our children.”

I mean that, I am committed to that goal, and I will work my tail off to accomplish it. There are 7 little nieces and nephews whom I treasure who are depending on you and me to save them from a future we have to strive to prevent.

You Choose

Look what Patty Murray and the Democrats think is good for America – deficits that plunge us towards bankruptcy!

Whose children and grandchildren will end up paying for this catastrophe?

Unsustainable Federal Budget Deficits

Murray rose from a faculty position, fully baked in the hothouse of liberal PC groupthink, to US Senator in a few short years; swept into the office in “the year of the woman,” 1992. She means well, but her voting record is does not help America’s future.

The Democratic Party’s belief in big government solutions to every problem has created legislation that has proven counterproductive, expensive, harmful, and unsustainable for 77 years. Patty Murray has been a myopic cheerleader for such buffoonery all her adult life. During the 110th Congress, her voting record was 97.5% along party lines; a tie for the very top spot with Richard Durban of Illinois. That is not legislating – it is rubber stamping anything the party tells her to vote for.

Of course, Murray voted for Obamacare and the unintended consequences are now emerging from the closet like Willard’s rats. Contrary to the President’s solemn promise, more than half of the presently insured will lose the coverage they prefer within 3 years. Now she is tuning up to vote for Cap & Trade which will burden job creating businesses with punitive energy costs during the depths of a severe recession.

Murray is blind to the fact that as the future unfolds, far too many have claims upon the earnings of far too few. The massive entitlement programs we already have are nearly bankrupt. Her knee jerk support for yet more government control and spending can only be explained by her typical liberal preoccupation with the present time. She knows not about history, cares not about reality, and sees not the future. Her only vision is limited to her slavish devotion to yet more big government solutions she mistakenly “feels” would make things better. “Reasoning” out the costs and unintended consequences is obviously beyond her capacity.

The future of our nation depends on whether the march of the nanny state and its exploding debt can be arrested and rolled back. If not, it will destroy liberty as we have known it and condemn our children to serfdom. Murray is a major enabler of our potential future under Big Brother. Leaving her in office for 6 more years only exacerbates the possibility of the day when it will be too late to stop it. We in Washington have to elect a different Senator.

Murray went to the Senate as “The Mom in Tennis Shoes” but quickly turned them into a rubber stamp. Her hardwired base will back her forever since they pay no more attention to history and future consequences than she does. It is up to those of us who can see the long term damage of liberal policies, spending, entitlements, and social engineering to send Murray back to a college classroom. There she can damage only a few young minds at a time instead of continuing to help push America off the precipice of dependency, indebtedness and international impotence. She must be fired in November!

Here is a cute description of Murray’s propensity for earmarks, followed by links to two great candidates who should be seriously considered to replace her:

Just the Facts

Here is Daniel Hannan, Member of the European Parliament chastising former Prime Minister Gordon Brown about deficit spending and borrowing. This exact same speech could and should be delivered in our own Congress, on the Sunday talk shows, and from every rooftop in America. Keep in mind that when Mr. Hannan mentions that every child in Britain is born owing “Twenty Thousand Pounds”; in America every child is born owing just shy of $400,000!

Our own Senator Murray and Representative Inslee are so wrapped around the axle with myopic liberal orthodoxy that neither of them would ever think of opposing the dangers of the nation’s present path toward future bankruptcy. Both ignore the past, are blind to the future, and concerned only with personal power. It is our job to elect replacements for them with Mr. Hannan’s common sense and courage. They are out there and running in the primaries this very moment and deserve our support.

This November General Election may well be the most important in our lifetimes. Don’t miss this opportunity to make a difference. Your little loved ones, too young to vote or yet unborn, are depending on you.

Senator Who?

Washington State has a golden opportunity to replace a rubber stamp in tennis shoes with a truly unique and powerful individual as US Senator.  There are 11 candidates currently in the primary for the Republican nomination to face Patty Murray in November. Any one of them would be an exponential improvement over the representation we have now. Murray rolls over and votes with the Obama Administration nearly 90% of the time. They are squandering our childrens’ futures with more spending, borrowing, and unrealistic promises that can never be kept.

The only way to begin a turnaround at the federal level is to change our representation in DC.  Scott Brown proved it could be done by handily winning a Senate seat in heavily Democratic Massachusetts.  Various incumbents of both parties are threatened with losses in primaries and will not even get a chance to defend their seats in the general election.  It is time to send Patty Murray back to a classroom where the damage she can do will be limited to a few feeble young minds and not the entire nation.

This is the new Governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie who defeated Democrat John Corzine last fall.  New Jersey is mired in debt with corresponding high tax levels and is bleeding wealth and businesses at an alarming rate.  Here Mr. Christie cogently answers one of his press adversaries who inquired about his “tone.”

Electing a dozen such men and women to the US Senate right now would be the best thing we could do to serve our nation and begin the necessary steps of reprioritizing our government’s activities before we begin to look like Greece.  Let us get to know our primary Senate candidates and elect someone with this level of honesty and courage.

Meet Clint Didier

“If not now, when? If not me, who?” Clint Didier answered by entering the Senate race. He is giving up his rewarding life as farmer, small businessman, and high school football coach to face the slings and arrows of a political battle. What motivates him so strongly that he would interrupt his life, family, and career to seek service in the US Senate? He understands the past, sees the present, and envisions a future that must be changed before it can occur. For the sake of his children and grandchildren, he must step forward and lead that change.

Clint Didier

Didier is an early example of an American political and social revival. For 75 years government has grown, regulation increased, entitlements expanded, and education degraded. Elected officials of both parties have promised reform, been elected, rotted in office, and purchased reelection with yet more promises, handouts, and borrowing. The American people are awakening to the impending fiscal catastrophe, and they want it prevented before it is too late.

What is Didier made of? He was a farm kid who worked hard from childhood, honing a work ethic that would see him far in life. His burning desire to play pro football was not about to be denied when coaches told him he was too slightly built. Playing hard and smart only got him part way; untold hours and self discipline in the weight room over the years built him up into condition to compete. He was drafted by the Washington Redskins and over a 9 year NFL career, played in 3 Super Bowls. The skinny kid from Eltopia earned a spot on the national stage with determination, perseverance, and guts.

Didier put his NFL earnings into a farm in Eastern Washington and began raising his family. Besides running that 1,000 acre farm, Didier owns and works a small excavation firm, and has coached the Connell High School football team for 11 years. His dream is to instill the ambition, drive, and opportunity he created for himself in others at an impressionable age. Here is a short bio:

Didier’s prime concern is the self serving, stultifying bureaucracy that has become of public education. He wants to roll back federal and NEA control of public education. Public schools worked well when control was local. They are now failing to educate our children – turning out graduates who cannot compete. This race to the bottom of the last half century will only reverse when control and school choice is returned directly to the citizens whose children are in the system.

Didier wants to reform entitlements before we become as bankrupt as Greece. He foresees disaster if Congress does nothing about our current debt and expanding future liabilities of Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid combined with Health Care. It will take courage and strong leadership to face these facts and move legislation to make such programs sustainable, or replace them over time. Pandering to recipients to secure votes has resulted in repeated failure. Didier is a proven leader, and will advance realistic plans to reform these programs.

Like the rest of us, Didier has been on the receiving end of government regulation and bureaucracy. As a farmer, he is continuously forced to deal with federal crop mandates, reporting requirements, and senseless overregulation. In his excavation business, he is always dealing with micromanagement from agencies of all levels. His experiences attempting to provide employment to young people have been stymied by layers of labor laws; the end result of which makes sure no American kid will ever have a chance to learn how to hold a job. Didier will bring sorely needed practical experience to Congress which is needed as a backstop against the many unintended consequences of legislation written by lawyers and academics.

The political left will become apoplectic over Didier’s conservative positions. Murray’s team has been sharpening knives to fight Dino Rossi and should Didier emerge the victor, they will have little ammunition to use against him. Didier has no apparent liabilities other than a small exposure as a farmer accepting some government programs as a cost of doing business. He has a mixed blessing with Kemper Freeman Jr. as a supporter. Freeman can raise money, but the Seattle media has been pounding Freeman for years because he favors cars and busses over light rail. They may not find many chinks in Didier’s armor, but you can bet they will savage Freeman and tie him to Didier every chance they get.

Is Didier electable in Washington State? Washington is filled with knee-jerk liberal voters, many of whom vote for Democrats based on one single issue – abortion. There are two keys to a Didier victory. First; seeing Didier in person is a remarkable experience. He is criss-crossing the state to make his case to as many as possible. He has wonderful bearing, exudes self confidence, and states his positions with eloquence, sincerity, and common sense. Didier has some residual star power from his days in pro ball which will help in some sectors.

Second; between now and November more Washingtonians must become aware of the true fiscal danger our nation is facing. They have to realize that their children’s future is in dire peril and the only chance to save them is to toss out incumbents everywhere and give new leadership a chance. As this awareness rises, Didier’s positions on the important issues will become an advantage.

Didier is a prime example of the Founding Fathers’ vision of the citizen legislator. Their intent was for individuals to leave their businesses, sacrifice a few years of their lives, and perform an honorable duty for their country. It is time to go back to that ideal, and Clint Didier is a shining example of just such a man.

Here is Didier’s campaign website. Take a close look at him. You may be getting to know our next Senator:

Don’t do it Dino!

Will Dino Rossi enter the race for US Senate? Rossi served 6 years in the Washington State Senate. He is especially remembered for his work negotiating a bi-partisan budget in 2003 along with several bills changing criminal statutes. He ran for Governor in 2004 and initially won with a margin of 261 votes. Victory was denied him after two subsequent recounts, the last of which featured court battles and an odiferous undercurrent. He ran for Governor again in ’08, losing by a margin of 6%. That election was the beginning of a national backlash against Republicans in general, which they well deserved.

There are nine candidates declared in the Primary scheduled for August 27th. The filing deadline is June 10th. So far, Rossi remains uncommitted. He is the elephant in the room, who has the instant capability and power to enter the race, sweep all opposition from the field, and run against Murray. Maybe so, but is it the right thing for Republicans and above all, for Washington State?

Rossi was a good State Senator, but an ultimately unsuccessful gubernatorial candidate. No matter what one thinks about the close election in ’04, Rossi still has two straight losses on his record. Would the third try be a charm, or a curse? Rossi is also viewed as an establishment Republican, somewhat tainted by his reputation of being too willing to vote with liberal Democrats. Keep in mind that such dealing at the national level has saddled this nation with incomprehensible debt and unsustainable entitlement programs over the past 75 years.

Most of Washington’s past “Republican” senators have suffered from a mealy-mouthed wimp complex, and voted more like Democrats than Republicans. A second coming of Slade Gorton would not do in today’s political climate. An opponent considered by the electorate as weak on important issues would be little different than the incumbent. Thousands of highly motivated voters would recognize the false choice, lose enthusiasm, stay home, and Murray would win by default.

Democrats and Murray’s team fear Rossi. They have been going to great lengths for years to dig up any dirt they can find and planting little news stories in a compliant media. None of these arson attempts have really taken off, but the constant drip of negative insinuations has hurt Rossi over time. You can bet that Murray’s campaign will release everything in an effort to make Rossi into cannon fodder.

Looking across the Atlantic and the unraveling of the Greek socialist economy, Americans are beginning to understand that a similar future awaits them if present policies and trends are not reversed. We must swamp Congress with fresh leadership and ideas. There are several candidates in the primary who have these attributes. They have been sacrificing time and money; criss-crossing the state to get their messages out. Meanwhile Rossi dithers and teases, seemingly enjoying his status while coyly playing with the press and his supporters.

Dino is a Dinosaur

Dino the Destructive Dinosaur

Rossi is obsolete today, tainted with too much “go along to get along” history and the baggage of two major electoral losses. He would be wrong to think he can depend on name recognition and erstwhile supporters, many of whom have enthusiastically embraced one of the present candidates. Many of us have followed this primary race closely and gotten to know the candidates. A late Rossi filing would be viewed as a narcissistic entry that would fracture the emerging groundswell of support for a truly strong opponent to Murray. The backlash against Rossi could sink any chance of defeating Murray in the fall.

Our nation’s future is in great peril. We need new leadership in the Senate that is not afraid of being accused of breaking some legislative china. Rossi is not the man to handle that job.
