Twelve Provocations

He is bigger than me, nasty, and cruel – the bully, assigned the seat behind me in 4th grade. Every few minutes, he reaches forward and tweaks my ear. I quietly seethe in growing anger, but continue to hope his harassment will cease. It is not to be. In an instant reaction of boiling rage, I rise, whirl, and attack. After getting in a few good hits and some choice words, I am sent to the principal’s office feeling relieved and rather proud.

The Bully

The Bully

The Obama Administration has been tweaking the American people’s ears for 17 months. Each time a new story breaks, it is another drip in the water torture of those who value their country and way of life and wish to preserve it. The retaliation will begin in November. Let’s look at a few of the reasons.

Stimulus Bill: Well north of $800 Billion is committed to this blatant purchase of public employee and union loyalty. The vast bulk of this pork barrel is targeted at maintaining employment in the public sector – not at energizing private, wealth producing industry.

TARP Automaker Bailout: Diverting money from a financial bailout fund, GM and Chrysler were forced into a perverted form of “bankruptcy” directed by the Obama Administration. Bond holders were ripped off and the UAW paid off. Instead of allowing the courts to settle the issues, the Administration propped up zombie companies solely to preserve union pensions, dues, and votes at taxpayer expense.

Blame America First: The President never misses an opportunity either at home or overseas to criticize America for deeds of the past and lecture citizens on the unfairness of our free economy and lifestyles. Americans want a President to lead and support them – not continuously degrade the nation’s accomplishments and the efforts of its entrepreneurs.

Close Guantanamo Bay: This idea was inept foolishness, and has not been accomplished. Americans do not want terrorists on US soil and feel they should be dealt with fairly, by the military, in a far away place.

Terror Trials in NYC: Based on PC instead of common sense, the Administration’s promise to hold the trials of the 9/11 defendants in New York in a civilian court instead of relying on a Military Tribunal has enraged millions. There is no cogent excuse for this decision and the pushback has been massive and widespread.

Health Care Bill: Against the will of the majority of the American people, this monstrous 2700 page bill was passed into law before anyone could read and understand its unintended consequences. Sold partly as a way to “bend the cost curve down”, recent developments have pointed to the exact opposite. Doctors are trying to sell their practices to escape the business. Major firms are charging huge amounts against future earnings, and it is estimated that half of those presently insured will lose the coverage they have within 3 years.

Border Security: The Administration has avoided securing the border apparently for political reasons, the security of the American people and the rule of law be damned. Out of desperation Arizona passed a law to enable local authorities to participate in the apprehension of illegal immigrants and turn them over to ICE. Instead of enforcing Federal law, the Administration is suing Arizona!

Cap & Trade legislation: In the depths of the worst recession since the 1930s, and after candidate Obama’s admission that “energy costs will necessarily skyrocket”, the Administration plans to push for passage of “Cap & Trade”. This will create a huge market in carbon credits ripe for manipulation and punish job creating businesses with crushing increases in costs. It will kill yet more jobs when we least need such results.

Oil Spill response: Two months of uncontrolled oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico has fouled beaches, smothered fish, drowned wildlife, and tossed thousands out of their life’s work. Foreign countries’ offers of aid are spurned by the Administration out of hubris and refusal to suspend the Jones Act. Instead of gathering experts and planning a response, a “commission” consisting of anti-oil zealots is appointed and deep oil drilling is prohibited for 6 months throwing thousands more out of work. There is no direction and no clear lines of authority. Operations and plans by states and municipalities to protect themselves are quashed by federal bureaucracies. Throughout this time, the President plays golf, throws parties, and attends private concerts. The Nero Administration is totally dysfunctional while the greatest environmental catastrophe in America’s history runs amok with no coordinated reaction.

Spending: No Administration in history has spent more money, most of borrowed from China and future generations, than this one. The Federal Budget Deficit has quadrupled on an annual basis and these tankers full of red ink are projected as far as the eye can see. This has to be reversed immediately by stopping the Administration in its tracks before the plunge toward national bankruptcy and the destruction of our children’s’ future is irrevocable.

Tax Increases: The Administration is rubbing its hands together awaiting an expected increase in revenue from the expiration of the Bush Tax Cuts. Unfortunately the consequence is that businesses are allocating as much revenue as possible into 2010, and hoarding cash. This is a recipe for compounding and prolonging the recession since money on the sidelines cannot create jobs through purchasing and expansion.

McChrystal Article: The Afghan people live in and prefer the 7th century. Attempting to drag them kicking and screaming into the 21st goes against their grain. They have proudly defeated outside invaders for a thousand years and see no reason to quit now. Presidential preferences (Bush and Obama) to eliminate opium cultivation, turn Islam from a lifestyle into a religion, stand up a secular democracy, and eliminate the Taliban may be a bridge too far. Obama already canned one general, and now fires McChrystal over an article in which the general and his staff let their guards down badly. This is not the President’s fault directly, but the overlapping and confused lines of authority between the military and various civilian officials are similar to the oil spill debacle. The apparent lack of direct leadership and control from the Oval Office cannot help but add to the impression that the Administration is in way over its head.

Foreign Relations: The act of sending the Churchill bust back to England and presenting schlocky DVDs to the British Prime Minister was crass. The ill treatment of the Israeli Prime Minister was inexcusable. Pulling the plug on missile defense in Poland and the Czech Republic was pathetic, and expecting the Iranian Mullahs to abandon their nuclear ambitions by smiling at them is naive at best. Dissing Honduras after the court legally deposed a President and leaving Columbia twisting in the wind on trade are alerting our historical allies that the US is not a dependable partner. Bowing to foreign heads of state is unacceptable conduct by an American President. Jimmy Carter may yet live to see himself elevated in history by the abject performance of this President.

The Obama Administration is the bully, the American people; its victims. Our ears are stinging from this continued abuse. As Americans it is our duty to the nation and its future to whirl and fight back. Your opportunity to vote this November must not be missed.

Devil to Pay

Greek citizens are angry because their government spent and promised too much, is broke, and has had to reduce wages, benefits, and pensions. Ironically, one of the requirements of the proposed EU and IMF bailout of Greece is that it privatize its single payer health care system!

Based on concerns that this situation could spread to several other European countries, the Euro is weakening and stock markets are falling. With the massive debt being rung up by our own government, could the dollar be next on the list?

In the US; local, county, state, and federal governments have vastly expanded regulation and ladled on layer upon layer of additional “services”. They have hired too many, promised too much, and spent themselves into a descending spiral of debt. High wages, big benefits packages, and generous pensions are quickly threatening to bankrupt many cities and states. Huge entitlement programs are fast approaching insolvency at the federal level.

What will the American people do when the rubber hits the road and all these promises cannot be kept? They were promised these programs and benefits in good faith, and are bound to be extremely angry when they find out their “services”, wages, and benefits will be reduced.

United Airlines pensions were trashed a few years ago. GM and Chrysler pensions are still paying out only because the US government is supporting the firms with TARP money. Social Security went into the red this year. Many states’ pension liabilities are underfunded and approaching critical breakdowns. College students are demonstrating against tuition increases. What will happen when California defaults on its pension liabilities? Will LA become “Athens West”?

If we do not address these looming problems immediately, we may be seeing serious unrest in our own cities. We must elect LEADERS with the principles, backbone, and ability to start adjusting these situations before the ax drops suddenly. We need office holders with the guts to look the American people in the eye and say “Enough!” If these unrealistic and underfunded programs are not scaled back, they will fail, and there will be the devil to pay.

The Greek government made the Faustian bargain of buying loyalty and labor peace by spending future revenues that would never materialize. The citizens are now being told they will get less free stuff, and they are violently reacting. Are the millions of Americans who are dependent on or expecting free stuff going to behave any differently when the gravy train grinds to a halt?

If you have children you care for in your life, now is the time to think of their future. Political business as usual should go into the dustbin of history. It depends on you and your vote to determine whether it will be a peaceful readjustment over time or a blind plunge over a fiscal cliff into conditions that will make the Great Depression look like a cakewalk. Preventing such a future will require most Americans to sacrifice some of the future benefits they are expecting – that goes for you and me. Can you face and handle the truth?

Don’t wake up some morning and see scenes like the above playing out in our major cities. Your country needs your attention, your love, and your vote at this approaching crossroads of history.

Dear Media

Less than half the country wants more government and more than half want less. This may be a good moment to inform the “mainstream media” enablers as to exactly why so many are so angry at so few.

Joe Klein of Time recently wrote that we are a “nation of dodos.” Bill Maher just told Larry King that  Americans are “not bright enough” to understand what is good for them. John Cassidy in The New Yorker impugns Tea Party types as possessing “self-identity that is historically inaccurate and potentially dangerous” along with implying that many are motivated by racism. Similar accusations have become common throughout news and commentary outlets over several months. Here is a reply from an independent voter and formal member of no political party or group:

Referring to us as racists, Neanderthals, dodos, misguided, dangerous, close minded, frightened, ignorant of history, or similar pejoratives does not make us so. It just demonstrates your inability to counter our beliefs with reasoned responses. The continuous laments on the major network Sunday shows, daily newscasts and liberal editorial pages are a pathetic deprecation of us who sincerely believe that our country is in dire need of a new direction. You have a right to your beliefs as do we. However this country is not, nor ever will become the dysfunctional utopian socialist mediocrity you so wish it to be. There are too many of us to let you make it happen.

You believe that rewarding failure by punishing success is compassion, and you are willing to sell the futures of our descendants down the river to fund such activity in the present time. You think that since most of us never attended some Ivy League university, that we are too uninformed to make our own choices in life. To assuage that shortcoming you wish to promote the imposition of layer upon layer of government control over us; eroding our birthright of freedom as a consequence. You support a public education bureaucracy that has been rotting for decades, cheating our young out of a quality K-12 education. You believe the federal government is the best operator of health care – 1/6 of our entire economy – when it has proven multiple times it cannot efficiently run the Postal Service, Indian Affairs, Park Service, Medicare, Social Security, or Amtrak.

It is obvious you are the ones who avoid the lessons of history, ignore the failures of socialism, and close your eyes to the looming entitlement catastrophe about to engulf those yet unborn. We however understand where this country came from, what principles were enshrined in its founding, and cherish those God given rights specified in the Declaration and the Constitution. We see the unsustainable growth of handouts, aid, loan guarantees, subsidies, entitlement programs, earmark spending, borrowing, and government in general and seek to reverse course before it is way too late. We feel the daily encroachment on our liberty as free men and women and strive to halt that erosion. We care deeply that our country not follow the path of failing states and default on its debts.

In the ‘60s many of you rose up in protest against our government at war in Viet Nam. Who are you to object when we band together, storm the Bastille of the ballot box, and broom your favorite leaches, hacks, and malfeasants, along with a few of our own mistakes, from office? We are every bit as concerned about the eventual ruination of our country through excessive government as you were about avoiding serving it in a hot war.

In any large group of like minded citizens, true beliefs and opinions vary along a bell curve. Our curve is centered on the right and yours; the left. In the far tails of each live the few very antisocial and disturbed members of each side. Your reporting and commenting always seeks out and embellishes the fringes of our movement purposely ignoring the center where the great bulk of the group resides. You had the Weather Underground while we have a few paranoid militia types. We have everything from Mensans to morons and so do you.

Your studios and newsrooms are populated with like minded people; products of similar journalism schools. You have spent your adult lives in the hothouse of diversity and political correctness while we meet, work, and exchange ideas with people of all races, religions, and on different sides of many issues. We are the folks you consider the great unwashed of flyover country. Your continuous disparagement of our intelligence and motives is nothing but the revelation of your fears of our strength. Your hatred of talk radio and FOX News only demonstrates your angst that your monopoly on communication is evaporating.

Rest your souls that we intend no physical harm to you or our government and its representatives. We will demonstrate in strength and leave the square tidy and untrashed. We won’t be tipping over cars and busses or burning tires in the streets. We will not be planting pipe bombs, igniting buildings, or smashing windows in Starbucks. We will organize, select candidates, and vote our way into power in a peaceful, legal transfer.

Once there, we will never impugn or restrict your rights to print, speak, or believe any way you wish. That’s a promise.
